Quick answer
Injectable hyaluronic acid is a gel that restores volume, softens folds and hydrates the skin. On the face it can treat areas such as the cheeks, nasolabial folds, lips, chin or jawline. The effect is immediate and temporary, and it is always applied by a doctor after an assessment.
What it does
With age, the face loses volume and hydration. Hyaluronic acid helps restore that structure locally, softening folds and bringing back definition. There are also more fluid formulations designed to improve skin hydration and quality.
Areas it can treat
- Cheeks and mid-face.
- Nasolabial folds and marionette lines.
- Lips and lip contour (see our article on lip filler).
- Chin and jawline.
- Under-eye area, in selected cases (see dark circles treatment).

How it is applied
After the assessment and skin cleansing, the doctor applies the gel with a fine needle or cannula at the agreed points. Anaesthetic is usually used. The session takes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the areas.
Risks and aftercare
Swelling, redness and small bruises are common in the first days. Rarer complications, such as a blocked blood vessel, require anatomical knowledge and immediate medical action, which is why it should always be performed by a doctor. For the first 24 to 48 hours avoid intense exercise, heat and massaging the area.
